Somewhere around the third hour of a leaf search, a seeker looks up and asks the question we hear more than any other: “Is my leaf not here?”

There are three honest answers to that. We have not reached it yet. It will not be found today. Or, now and then, it may not be in our collection at all. These are very different situations, and a person who has travelled overnight to Vaitheeswaran Koil deserves to be told which one applies instead of being given a reassuring guess.

This guide explains why a Nadi leaf is sometimes not found, how long a search normally takes, and what you can do if yours does not appear on the first visit.

How a Nadi leaf search works

Everything starts with your thumb impression. We take it with an ink pad on paper. Men give the right thumb and women give the left. The astrologer looks at the line and whorl pattern and places it into one of 108 categories, and each category points to a bundle of palm leaves.

Then the slow part begins. The astrologer reads out statements from the first leaf, and you confirm or deny each one. If the details do not match, the leaf is set aside and the next one is read. This continues until a leaf matches your life closely enough that you are sure it is yours.

Nothing about this can be hurried. We covered the timing in detail in how long a Nadi leaf search takes, but the short version is that a search can run from about thirty minutes to several hours. Plan on a full day, and do not book a same-day return ticket. The search is part of the reading fee. We do not charge more because it took longer.

Why a leaf may not be found on the first visit

When a leaf does not turn up, one of three things is usually behind it. We wrote about this in why your leaf will not always be found on the first visit, and here is the plain version.

The thumb impression was not clear

The impression decides which bundle we pull out. If it is faint, smudged or incomplete, we may be searching the wrong bundle, and no amount of patience will find a leaf that is sitting in a different one. The fix is simple: a cleaner impression and a fresh search.

The bundle is large and the day ran out

Some categories are common, and common categories hold many leaves. Your leaf may well be in the bundle, but the session ends before we reach it. In that case it is a matter of continuing, either on a return visit or online.

The leaf is not in our collection

Our collection has been gathered over generations from places across Tamil Nadu. It is large, but it is not complete, and some people’s leaves are not in any one centre’s collection. We say this openly because the alternative, handing you a leaf that is “close enough”, would be worse than telling you the truth.

Not found today does not mean there is no leaf for you

This is the part people most need to hear. A missed leaf is not a verdict on you. Seekers have come back months later, sometimes years later, and found their leaf quickly. Every search starts fresh, so a previous attempt does not count against you.

If you want the longer story behind that, read why a Nadi leaf is often not found on the first attempt. And if you have already been through more than one visit, why some people never find their Nadi leaf goes into the harder cases.

What to do if your Nadi leaf is missing

Here is the order we suggest, and it is the same order Guruji V.S. SamySadhasivam follows when a seeker is sitting in front of him without a leaf.

  1. Work out which of the three reasons applies. Guruji assesses this first, because the next step depends on it.
  2. If the impression was the problem, take a new, clearer one and search again. We can often continue the same day, or fix a return visit.
  3. If time was the problem, ask for an estimate of how much longer the search needs. You can come back, or continue online.
  4. If the leaf is probably not in our collection, we will tell you so directly. We will not offer a generic consultation as a substitute. You may then choose to try another centre that holds a different collection.
  5. Finish the search at one centre before starting at another. Running several searches at once usually muddles the details you are confirming.

We also have a separate post on exactly this situation: what if your Nadi leaf is missing.

How to prepare so the search goes faster

  • Arrive early in the morning, when the centre is quieter. Weekdays and advance appointments mean shorter waits than festival days.
  • Set aside the whole day, and bring water and something light to eat. Searches can run into the afternoon.
  • Know your basic family details, such as the names of your parents, siblings, spouse and children. Unclear or hesitant answers slow the search more than anything else.
  • Press your thumb firmly and evenly for the impression, and ask for another attempt if you are not happy with it.
  • Stay calm. Anxiety makes answers vague, and vague answers make the search longer.

If you are planning the trip itself, our Vaitheeswaran Koil travel guide covers the practical side. For how the reading works once the leaf is found, see how a Nadi astrology palm leaf reading works.

What we do when a leaf is not found

Our centre, Sri Kousiha Agasthiya Mahasiva Sukshma Vedha Bhavan Naadi Jothida Nilayam, has been run by one family for four generations, and Guruji V.S. SamySadhasivam has practised for more than fifty years. In all that time the rule has been the same: we do not present a wrong leaf as yours.

That sometimes means a seeker leaves without a reading, which is a hard thing to watch. But a reading built on the wrong leaf is of no use to anyone, and we would rather lose a booking than your trust.

Nadi astrology is a traditional practice. It is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice, and we encourage you to take those decisions to the right professionals as well.

Frequently asked questions

How many visits does it take to find a Nadi leaf?

There is no fixed number. The quality of your thumb impression and how clearly you confirm or deny statements matter most. Some seekers find their leaf on the first visit, and others need a second.

Should I visit several Nadi centres at once?

We recommend finishing the search at one centre before trying another. Different centres hold different collections, and running parallel searches tends to confuse the details.

Can a leaf that was missed on an earlier visit be found later?

Yes. We have found leaves for returning seekers, and each search starts fresh.

Do you charge more if the search takes longer?

No. The search is part of the reading fee and is not charged by the hour.

Can the search continue online?

Yes, when the search needs more time we can continue online as well as on a return visit.

What if my leaf is never found?

If you have made sincere, repeated attempts, Guruji can discuss the options with you. We will always tell you plainly if we believe the leaf is not in our collection.
